The Blast Beat the Comets, 15-13, Saturday

The Blast squandered an early 9-0 lead but hung on to beat the Missouri Comets, 15-13, Saturday night at the Independence Events Center.   Seven different players scored for the Blast who improved to 8-3 on the season and remain in a tie with the Milwaukee Wave for first place in the MISL.

Max Ferdinand scored one goal and assisted another in the first quarter to lead the Blast to an early 5-0 lead and Pat Healey, Pat Morris and Lucio Gonzaga added goals to extend the lead the 9-0.  Lucas Rodriguez scored the Comets first goal of the match at 11:48 of the second quarter but Carlos Garcia scored just 10 seconds later to extend Baltimore's lead to 11-2.  Leo Gibson, Missouri's second-leading scorer, knocked in a three-point goal late in the half to make it 11-5 at the halftime break. 

Giuliano Celenza scored the lone goal of the third quarter, a restart goal at 3:58 that made it 13-5, but the Comets fought back throughout the final quarter, outscoring the Blast four to one and bringing the game to within two points.  Blast goalkeeper Sagu stopped 19 of the 25 shots he faced and Gonzaga returned to the playing field after serving a two-game MISL suspension.
