Led by Adauto Neto the Baltimore Blast defeated the Milwaukee Wave, 15-6, Friday night and moved into sole possession of first place in the MISL. The Blast have just six games remaining in their battle to win the 2010-11 MISL regular season and host the 2011 MISL Championship Game.
Neto, who has missed eight games this season with knee injuries, recorded goals in the first, third and fourth quarters to lead the Blast to victory. The Blast, 11-3 on the season, extend their winning streak to five straight games.
After 12 minutes of scoreless back-and-forth play, Neto intercepted a pass and scored his first three-point goal of the season to give the Blast a 3-0 lead. Worteh Sampson added a goal with 32 seconds left in the first quarter to extend Baltimore's lead to 5-0.
Neither team scored in the second quarter but both teams more than made up for it in the third quarter, combining for five goals and four penalties. Neto scored his second goal of the match and Lucio Gonzaga and Pat Morris added quick goals to extend Baltimore's lead to 11-0 just three minutes into the second half. With Mike Lookingland sitting in the penalty box, Wave leading scorer Marco Terminesi scored a power play goal for Milwaukee's first goal of the game. He scored another power play goal, three minutes later, with Carlos Garcia in the penalty box.
Giuliano Celenza and Neto scored in the final quarter to put the Blast on top, 15-4, but J.P. Rodrigues scored the last goal of the night to make the final score 15-6.
