It was the Marco Terminesi show in Milwaukee Sunday afternoon as the Wave forward led his team to a 15-10 victory over the Blast and back into a tie for first place in the MISL. The Blast and Wave are tied at the top of the standings, each with 14-5 records and one regular season game remaining. The Blast must now win their next game (Sunday the 13th at home against the Missouri Comets) in order to win the 2010-11 regular season title and host the 2011 MISL Championship Game. Machel Millwood recorded a hat trick to lead the Blast.
The Wave dominated the first quarter, jumping out to a 6-0 lead on goals from Greg Howes, Giuliano Oliviero and Marcio Leite. Howes played in just his second game since returning to the playing field almost four years after retiring at the end of the 2007-08 season.
After the Blast killed two second-quarter Wave power plays, Max Ferdinand scored at the 9:31 mark to cut the Wave lead to 6-2. Millwood added a goal in the 14th minute to put the Blast within one goal of the Wave, 6-4.
Terminesi, the second-leading scorer in the MISL, recorded all of his goals in the third quarter, including two goals 1:06 apart to open the quarter and extend the Wave lead to 10-4. Terminesi scored all three goals in a 10-minute span (2:48, 3:54 and 12:25) to give the Wave a 12-6 lead at the end of the quarter. Adauto Neto scored Baltimore's only third-quarter goal.
Millwood scored early and late in the final quarter but it was Evan McNeley's three-point goal against Baltimore's sixth-attacker offense that sealed the Wave's 15-10 victory.
The Baltimore Blast, 14-5 and on a two-game losing streak, have just one regular season game remaining. If the Blast beat the Missouri Comets at 1st Mariner Arena on the 13th, they will win the 2010-11 regular season title and will host the 2011 MISL Championship Game on Friday, March 25.
