The Baltimore Blast beat the Rockford Rampage, 14-4, Saturday night to open the 2008-09 National Indoor Soccer League.  Denison Cabral led the Blast with three goals and Sagu held the Rampage scoreless for the first 53:26 of the game.  Prior to kickoff the Blast celebrated their 2008 Championship with a banner raising and ring presentation ceremony.

Cabral's three goals all came in the first half (two in the first quarter and one in the second quarter) and Matt Watson, Carlos Garcia and Machel Millwood had one goal apiece in the first half.

Cabral and Watson's goals gave Baltimore a 6-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Garcia, Cabral and Millwood scored in the second quarter to give the Blast a 12-0 lead at halftime.  Newly signed Matt Tirschman assisted Cabral's second-quarter goal and Robbie Aristodemo had two assists in the first quarter.

After a scoreless third quarter, Giuliano Celenza scored to start the final quarter before Matt Stewart scored Rockford's first goal to make it 14-2.  Sagu held the Rampage scoreless for 53:26 and Tijani Ayegbusi scored with three seconds left in the game to make the final score 14-4.

The Blast began its title defense with many of the same players who were on the 2008 championship squad including Denison Cabral, Sagu, PJ Wakefield and Machel Millwood.  Newcomers Jonathn Greenfield, Tirschman and Pat Healey were also on the field Saturday night in Blast jerseys.

The Rampage featured several players familiar with the Blast, including former Blast players Sanaldo and Ibrahim Kante.  Jamar Beasley, Semir Mesanovic, Jorge Valle and Matthew Stewart were also on the floor with the Rockford Rampage.

The Blast is off until December 6th when the team will travel to Rockford for a rematch against the Rampage before returning to 1st Mariner Arena to host the Massachusetts Twisters on December 12.  Tickets for all Blast home games are available at
