Blast Beats Rampage, 11-2, in Rockford

The Baltimore Blast (2-0) defeated the Rockford Rampage, 11-2, Saturday night at the MetroCentre in Rockford, Ill.  Matt Watson led the Blast with two goals and Machel Millwood, Denison Cabral and Mike Lookingland also scored in the victory.  
Millwood gave the Blast an early 2-0 lead when he scored a power play goal at 11:33 of the first quarter.

The second quarter featured three power plays (two for Baltimore, one for Rockford) but no goals.

The Rampage started the third quarter with 49 seconds left on a first-half power-play and tied the game at 2-2 when Semir Mesanovic scored just 39 seconds into the second half.  Just seconds after the Rampage goal, Fred DeGand pulled Millwood down and Cabral scored a shootout goal to put the Blast back on top, 4-2.

The Blast scored three goals in the final quarter en route to the 11-2 victory.  Lookingland scored early in the fourth quarter and Watson scored two late goals to make it 8-2 then 11-2.  Watson's second goal was a three-pointer.

Defender Jonathan Greenfield did not travel with the team to Rockfird, due to a knee injury.

The Blast opened the 2008-09 NISL season with a 14-4 win over the Rampage at 1st Mariner Arena on November 15th.  The Blast is coached by  Danny Kelly and assistant coach David Bascome and led by all-time leading scorer, Cabral, and team captain, PJ Wakefield.  The Blast entered the 2008-09 National Indoor Soccer League season poised to bring yet another championship trophy to Baltimore.  Watson, Robbie Aristodemo, Carlos Garcia and Millwood also return to lead Baltimore’s offensive efforts while Lookingland and Ryan Pierce join Wakefield in defense of Sagu’s goal.  New to the team this season are veterans Jonathan Greenfield, Matt Tirschman and Craig Scheer as well as rookies Pat Healey, Adrian Bumbut and Rich Lesmes.  Greenfield recorded 44 points and 23 blocks last season for the Detroit Ignition and Tirschman and Scheer are both former players returning to Baltimore.  Tirschman, who played for the Spirit in 1997-98, recorded an assist in his November 15th return to the pro game, and Scheer, who split time between the California Cougars and New Jersey Ironmen last season, won a championship with the Blast in 2003 and made his 2008-09 Blast debut in Rockford on the 6th. 
The Blast will return to 1st Mariner Arena on Friday, December 12th to host the Massachusetts Twisters.  December 12th is team photo night and the first 3,000 fans who enter 1st Mariner Arena will receive a free team photo, courtesy of Murray Cellular.
