The Baltimore Blast defeated the Massachusetts Twisters, 26-4, Saturday night at the Eastern States Coliseum to improve to 5-0 on the season. Defenders PJ Wakefield and Mike Lookingland led the Blast with two goals each and rookie Pat Healey scored one goal and added two assists.
Wakefield opened the scoring, just 12 seconds into the match with a three-point goal to give the Blast the early 3-0 lead. Robbie Aristodemo followed up five minutes later to increase the Blast lead to 5-0 before John Krause scored for the Twisters to make it 5-2. Denison Cabral scored next for the Blast (7-2) and Carlos Garcia added a three-pointer a minute later to make it 10-2. Krause scored again with just two seconds left in the quarter to cut Baltimore's lead to 10-4.
Lookingland scored two goals in the second quarter and Wakefield added his second goal of the night to lead the Blast to five unanswered goals and a 20-4 halftime lead. Lookingland scored a short-handed goal in the seventh minute of the quarter while the Blast served a two-minute penalty for too many men on the field and then scored again, a minute later, to give Baltimore a 14-4 lead. Wakefield scored next, followed by Matt Tirschman and Giuliano Celenza to end the first half.
Dave Kern replaced Sagu in goal to start the second half but Sagu returned to the field to end the quarter while Kern served a two-minute penalty. Defender Jonathan Greenfield scored his first Blast goal (5:56 of the third) and Carlos Garcia scored in the eighth minute to put the Blast on top, 24-4, heading into the final quarter of play.
Healey, who recorded two assists in the second quarter, added a goal in the fourth minute of the fourth quarter to give the Balst a 26-4 lead. Healey now has a goal in three straight games.
The Blast will play two more road games before returning to 1st Mariner Arena on January 23rd to host the Monterrey La RaZa.
