Former Blast roaming announcer and current Fox 45 news reporter Joel D. Smith will return to 1st Mariner Arena Saturday night in a new role – children’s book author. Smith, who served as the Blast’s roaming announcer from 1998-2001, recently penned “Santa's Secret Deal”. It’s a children’s book about a jealous little elf who takes back toys when children don’t care enough to put them away properly.
“Santa’s Secret Deal” will be available for sale on the stage until the third quarter of the Blast vs. Comets game and Joel D. will be on the stage to sign copies of the book. “Santa’s Secret Deal” costs $14.25, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Toys For Tots. Blast fans can earn discounts Saturday night by taking a chance on Joel. D.’s one-of-a-kind “Santa’s Secret Deal” bean bag toss.
"When a jealous elf, who reluctantly makes toys for others, sees exactly how kids neglect and lose her prized creations ... she vows to knock the jingle out of Christmas forever. But here’s the REALLY bad news: This elf is Santa's hand-picked successor, and his very own ... kid sister." On the back of the book, Joel D. acknowledges his favorite parts of his career and mentions the Baltimore Blast.
If you can’t make it to 1st Mariner Arena Saturday night, “Santa’s Secret Deal” is also available online at www.SantasSecretDeal.com.
