The Blast fell 6-5 to the Wave Saturday night for their second loss in less than 24 hours. Neto and Mike Lookingland scored for Baltimore in a typical Blast vs. Wave game that featured end-to-end action, countless scoring opportunities and 10 minutes of penalties.
For the second game in a row, the Blast trailed in the first quarter but Saturday night, unlike Friday night, the Blast only trailed by one goal. Luan Oliveira scored the first goal of the match, eight minutes into play, to give the Wave an early 2-0 lead.
After the Wave's first-quarter goal, the teams played nearly 20 scoreless minutes before Oliveira scored his second goal of the game to put the Wave on top, 4-2. The Blast answered late in the first half when J.T. Noone found Adauto Neto to cut the Wave lead in half.
Mike Lookingland gave Baltimore a short-lived 5-4 lead with a three-point goal midway through the third quarter but Milwaukee's Hewerton regained the Wave lead at 6-5 late in the quarter.
The Blast has nine days off before ringing in 2013 with a New Year's Day game in Rochester.
The Blast kicked off their 33rd season of professional indoor soccer in Baltimore with nine straight wins, marking the seventh time since the 1992-93 season the team has started with five or more wins. Friday's loss in Chicago put an end to the team's hopes of extending the win streak to 10 games and matching the 1993-94 Baltimore Spirit squad’s record of 10 straight wins to open the season.
