Tarik Walker to be Inducted into Hall of Fame Feb. 16

The Baltimore Blast has announced that former player and assistant coach Tarik Walker will be inducted into the Baltimore Blast Hall of Fame on Saturday, February 16.  Original Blast Head Coach Kenny Cooper, former players Stan Stamenkovic, Mike Stankovic, Tim Wittman, Bruce Savage, Dave MacWilliams, Joey Fink, Heinz Wirtz, Keith Van Eron, Dominic Mobilio, Billy Ronson, Richard Chinapoo, Cris Vaccaro, Pat Ercoli, Doug Neely, Danny Counce and Rusty Troy are already in the Hall of Fame, along with original MISL Commissioner Earl Foreman.  Walker will be honored in a ceremony during halftime of the Blast game against the Wichita Wings.

“Tarik was a quiet leader with great skill,” said Blast owner Ed Hale.  “I will always remember him for stepping up in the postseason, particularly when the team was decimated by injuries.”

Walker, who played 10 seasons in Baltimore, served as the team’s player/assistant coach for a portion of the 2005-06 and retired after the 2006-07 season.  He began his career as the 1994 NPSL Rookie of the Year and went on to represent Baltimore in two All-Star Games and win championships with the Blast and 2003, 2004 and 2006.  Walker, who recorded 582 points during his time in Baltimore, still ranks second on the team’s all-time scoring list.  He also still ranks second all-time in goals, two-point goals and game-winning goals, third all-time in games played and fourth in assists.  He was drafted by the then-Baltimore Spirit in the 1993 NPSL draft, recorded a career-high 112 points in 1998-99 and served as team captain from 2003 to 2005.

“When I got the notice, I thought ‘awesome!’” said Walker.  “After a few minutes of celebrating being on the ballot, I came back to the fact that I am lucky to have played with several teammates who are just as deserving.  I truly feel that players can only reach a status as elite as a Hall of Fame induction with the support of other excellent support players, good coaches and an excellent organization.”

Kevin Healey, President and General Manager of the Blast added, “I am very proud to announce Tarik as a member of the Blast hall of fame.  He is a key reason that the Blast have become a quality organization on and off the field.  He always represented our organization with class.”
