Marco Mangione and William Vanzela are MISL Team of the Week

Pat Healey and J.T. Noone are Honorable Mention


Baltimore – Blast Forward Marco Mangione and Goalkeeper William Vanzela were both named to the MISL Team of the week. Mangione led the Blast with a game high 3 goals and 7 points while Vanzela recorded 13 saves out of 17 shots. Pat Healey’s 3 blocks, 4 points and J.T. Noone’s impact on the defensive end also landed them both Honorable Mention accolades.

Ian Bennett has been named the MISL Player of the Week for the opening week of the 2013-14 regular season. Bennett had five goals, including the game-winner, as Milwaukee took a 23-21 overtime victory against the Missouri Comets on Saturday night to earn the award.

Bennett scored the final three goals of the game as the Wave recorded a dramatic comeback in the final three minutes after being six points down. The 11-point night was a career best for the Canadian Futsal international, with his game-winner coming 8:07 into the extra session. 

Joining Bennett and Mangione on the forward line on the MISL Team of the Week is another player who recorded a hat trick in his sides’ season-opening win; Syracuse’s Slavisa Ubiparipovic, the 2011 MISL Rookie of the Year who led the Silver Knights past the Pennsylvania Roar on Friday night.

Ubiparipovic’s teammate, Nelson Santana, joins him on the Team of the Week after his two goals and solid defensive play also factored into the Silver Knights’ victory. Missouri’s Leo Gibson takes the other defensive spot after a seven-point night in defeat against Milwaukee.

The MISL continues this weekend with six contests, including the debut of expansion franchise the St. Louis Ambush as they host the Pennsylvania Roar on Friday night. Saturday night also sees a classic rivalry renewed as the Baltimore Blast host the Milwaukee Wave in their home opener.
