Baltimore – Baltimore Blast President and General Manager Kevin Healey announced today that the team has re-signed 5 players from last year’s squad.   The returning players are forwards Adauto Neto and Adriano Dos Santos, midfielder Lucio Gonzaga, defender Pat Healey and goalkeeper William Vanzela.  In addition, the team has signed forward Jerjer Gibson who played last year for the Pennsylvania Roar.


“The signing of this core group of veterans, along with a quality young forward in Jerjer Gibson, is an important step for us in terms of being able to compete for a championship this coming season in the MASL.  These players will be essential to our success.” said Blast head coach Danny Kelly. 


William Vanzela returns to the Blast for his third year after an excellent season last year.  Vanzela was named League Goalkeeper of the Year as he led the league in save percentage at .833 and had a points against average of 5.57 points per game.  Vanzela was also the 2012/2013 Most Valuable Player of the play-offs and All-Rookie team selection in his first year with the Blast.


Defender Pat Healey returns to the Blast for his seventh season.  For the second consecutive season, Healey ranked second in the league in blocked shots with 31.  Healey was also tenth on the team with 22 points and third on the team with 10 assists.  Healey has been named to the All-League team twice and was the league Rookie of the Year in the 2008/2009 season.  In addition, Pat Healey led the Blast in scoring in the 2010/2011 season.


Midfielder Lucio Gonzaga will be entering his eighth season of professional indoor soccer and his seventh season with the Blast.  Last year, Gonzaga ranked seventh on the Blast roster in points with 28, including 10 goals and 6 assists.  Gonzaga has been selected as an All-League player two times.  Lucio Gonzaga led the Blast in scoring in the 2009/2010 season.


Forward Adauto Neto will be starting season number twelve of professional indoor soccer and his sixth season with the Blast.  Last year, Neto was fifth on the team with 32 points, including 11 goals and 9 assists.  Neto has been named All-League three times, including league Most Valuable Player in the 2005/2006 season.  Neto led the team in scoring that season and ranked second in scoring for the league.  Adauto Neto was also named to the All-Rookie team in the 2003/2004 season.


Forward Adriano Dos Santos returns to the Blast for his fourth season.  Last year was the best statistical year for Dos Santos as he was sixth on the team in points with 31.  Dos Santos recorded 13 goals and 4 assists during the 2013/2014 season.


Newcomer forward Jerjer Gibson joins the Blast after completing his first professional indoor season with the Pennsylvania Roar.  Gibson played in 19 games for the Roar and was third on the team in points with 14.  Gibson scored 6 goals and recorded 1 assist.
