Blast Defeat Mustangs 10-5



The Blast traveled to Chicago on Monday for a matchup against the Mustangs. In the second matchup of the season the Blast were again victorious 10-5.


Both teams came out with high intensity. The Blast would score first when Juan Pereira scored  an acrobatic goal for his 6th of the season assisted by Pat Healey. The Mustangs would tie the game at 1 when Ricardo Carvalho found the back of the net. The Blast would answer with back to back goals. In his first game with the Blast Sofiane Tergou recorded a goal off an assist from Jonatas Melo and then Tony Donatelli, who is second on the Blast in points, recorded his 13th goal of the season. With seconds left in the quarter the Mustangs would get a goal from Miguel Vaca to pull within one. At the end of the first the Blast led 3-2. 


Goals would be exchanged by both teams in the second quarter. First the Mustangs would tie the game at 3 with a goal from Ricardo Carvalho, but the Blast would answer when Kaoru Forbess scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Sofiane Tergou. Goalkeeper William Vanzela recorded 12 saves in the half and the Blast went into the locker room leading 4-3.


The back and forth action continued in the second half. Tony Donatelli scored just :56 seconds into the quarter off an assist from Lucas Roque. Miguel Vaca would answer moments later for the Mustangs. The next three goals would go to the Blast as they extended their lead through a physical quarter. Andrew Hoxie headed in his 12th goal of the season before Tony Donatelli was able to complete the hat trick with his third goal of the evening. The goal was assisted by Sofi Tergou, which was his second assist of the night. At the 13:51 mark Lucas Roque recorded his 14th goal of the season off of Pat Healey’s second assist of the game. The Blast entered the final quarter leading 8-5.


The Blast lead would be extended at the 1:34 mark hen Andrew Hoxie recorded his second goal of the game. At the 4:56 mark a Blast penalty led to a shootout and power play for the Mustangs. In an amazing defensive effort goalkeeper William Vanzela was able to stop the shootout attempt and then the defense led by Pat Healey, Adriano Dos Santos, and Onua Obasi were able to defend numerous Mustang shots in a key penalty kill. At the 7:48 mark Andrew Hoxie would complete the second hat trick of the night when he recorded his third goal of the season of an assist from Kaoru Forbess to seal the Blast victory.


The Blast improve to 13-2 on the season. The Blast were led offensively by Tony Donatelli and Andrew Hoxie who both recorded hat tricks on the night. Sofia Tergou recorded 3 points in his first game with the Blast recording a goal and adding 2 assists. Blast goalkeeper, William Vanzela, recorded 21 saves in the victory. The Blast will return home Friday, February 19th when they host the rival Missouri Comets in Baltimore. Kickoff is at 7:35p.m. EST from the Royal Farms Arena.
