Baltimore Blast vs. Missouri Comets

Setting the Tone:

 

Baltimore Blast: 13-2 after defeating the Chicago Mustangs 10-5 on Monday.  First place in the Eastern Division and have clinched division.

 

Missouri Comets: 14-3 after 7-2 victory over the Milwaukee Wave last week. First place in the Central Division and have clinched a playoff berth.

 

Previous Matchup: The Comets defeated the Blast 6-4 in Missouri in the first matchup of the season.

Defense Wins Championships:

This season the Blast have allowed only 43 goals while scoring 103 for the second best goal differential in the MASL. William Vanzela leads the league GAA with a 2.81 average and save percentage with a .809%.  

 

2014-15 MASL Defender of the Year, First Team All MASL, and Team Captain Pat Healey anchors the defense which leads the league in goals against this season. Healey and others, like  MASL All Rookie Team selection Onua Obasi, and veteran defender Adriano Dos Santos, continue to carry the long tradition of stout Baltimore defense.

 

Team Play:

While Vini Dantas leads the Blast in points with 30, which is 10th best in the league, the Blast are far from being one dimensional. The Blast have 8 players who have recorded 10 points or more this season including veteran leaders Tony Donatelli, Lucas Roque, and Pat Healey.  

 

The Competition- Missouri Comets:

This highly anticipated matchup features one of the league’s best offenses against one of the league’s best defenses.  Vahid Assadpour is second in the MASL this season with 45 points through 17 games. He has recorded 19 goals and 26 assists. The high powered Comets offense which has recorded 135 goals on the season is rounded out by Ramone Palmer (17 goals), Leo Gibson (18 goals), Lucas Rodriguez (19 goals), and Max Touloute (16 goals). The Comets are coached by Vlatko Andonovski.
