MISL ADDS ANOTHER NEW TEAM FOR 2010-11

MISL ADDS ANOTHER NEW TEAM FOR 2010-11 SEASON
Professional Indoor Soccer Expands into Omaha

The Major Indoor Soccer League announced that professional indoor soccer will move into Omaha, Neb. for the upcoming 2010-11 season.  The League’s Management Committee has granted unanimous approval to the soon-to-be-named new MISL team, who will play their home games at the Omaha Civic Auditorium Arena in downtown Omaha.

“This is truly an exciting time for the MISL with the addition of a new team in Omaha,” said MISL Commissioner David Grimaldi. “The Midwest is proving to be a strong area for MISL expansion and fits our long-term business model very well as we regionalize our league during the next few years of growth.  Our new Omaha ownership group consists of passionately committed partners who will make the great city of Omaha very proud of its newest hometown professional sports team.  Omaha can now enjoy the beginning of a new intense rivalry with the recently announced Comets just down the road in Independence, Mo.  Additional close rivalries are projected in the near future.”

Frank Onate, principal owner, Sam Coughlin, General Manager and minority owner, and Jose Ramon Munoz, minority owner, have teamed up to bring indoor soccer to Omaha.  Onate owns and operates the La Mesa Mexican restaurant chain which includes 10 locations in Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri and Kansas.  Coughlin, who is originally from Kansas City, Mo., moved to Omaha in 2002 and has worked in sales for the last 12 years.  Munoz has a long history in radio sales and programming and has launched four Hispanic radio stations.  He has worked for Telemundo, Journal Radio and NRG Media.

"Professional soccer in Omaha is overdue,” Onate said.  “I have been saying for years that Omaha has the fans to support a higher-level team and now we have it."

Omaha has a population of more than 454,000 within the city limits and is the 40th largest city in the United States.  The Greater Omaha Metropolitan Area includes eight counties and has a population of 838,875 with a very strong and active soccer community.  For tickets or additional information on the new MISL team in Omaha, call 402-932-3335.

“The Omaha market is perfect for an MISL franchise because of the diversity of the marketplace and the support of the people rallying behind their hometown teams," Coughlin said.

“All of the MISL ownership groups are happy to see the league expand into Missouri and now Omaha," said Ed Hale, Chairman of the MISL and owner of the Baltimore Blast.  “We expect to add at least one more team before the start of the 2010- season which will set the stage for this season and next season when we could have as many as three or four more teams join the MISL.  The future is the brightest for our great sport as it has been in 10 years.”

The Omaha Civic Auditorium Arena is home to the Omaha Beef, an indoor pro-football team affiliated with the Indoor Football League (IFL), and the Omaha Lancers hockey team of the United States Hockey League (USHL).  The Omaha Civic Auditorium seats up to 9,300 for sporting events and can accommodate up to 10,960 for concerts.  For more information on the Omaha Civic Auditorium Arena, please visit the venue’s website at www.omahacivic.com.

Grimaldi added “The MISL provides fans with the "best-value buy" in sports entertainment.  Our game is entertaining, fast-paced, high-scoring, fiercely competitive and very affordable for the entire family. This is a true "win-win" situation for the city & fans of Omaha and the MISL."
