The Riot Beat the Blast, 11-9, in Overtime

The Chicago Riot defeated the first-place Baltimore Blast, 11-9 in overtime, Friday night at 1st Mariner Arena.  Ante Cop scored the game-winning goal in the third minute of the overtime period.  The Blast is still just one win away from winning the 2010-11 MISL regular season and hosting the 2011 MISL Championship Game.

Cop, the Riot's back-up goalkeeper who also scored a game-winning goal against the Blast on January 16, played as a field player on Friday while Jeff Richey manned the nets.

Defender Pat Morris scored twice in the first quarter to give the Blast an early 2-0 lead over the Riot.  Morris scored his first goal in the fourth minute and his second goal as time expired at the end of the quarter.

Novi Marojevic scored a three-point goal early in the second quarter to put the Riot on the scoreboard and cut the Blast lead to 4-3.  Matt Watson gave the Blast a 6-3 lead at 9:28 but Alex Megson answered just 31 seconds later to make it 6-5.

Morris completed his hat trick in the sixth minute of the third quarter with a three-point goal that put the Blast on top, 9-5.

Megson's second goal of the game cut the Blast lead to 9-7 just :58 seconds into the final quarter.  Brandon Corday tied the game at 9-9, forcing the second overtime game between the Blast and Riot in a week.

Before the game the Blast honored forward Giuliano Celenza who announced earlier this week that he will retire at the end of the season.

The Blast, 14-4 and in first place in the MISL, have just two regular season games remaining.

If the Blast win either of their two remaining games they will win the 2010-11 regular season title and will host the 2011 MISL Championship Game on Friday, March 25.
