Sagu and Pat Morris Named MISL Players of the Month

Defensive: Pat Morris, Baltimore Blast
Blast defender Pat Morris recorded four goals, one assist and eight blocks in four games in February and is the highest-scoring defender in the MISL with 42 points.  The 12-year veteran and two-time league Defender of the Year recorded at least one goal three of the four games.  Morris, who was named First-Team All-MISL and Defender of the Month in January and February last season, ranks second on the Blast and tied for eighth in the MISL with 42 points; he is also tied to lead the Blast and tied for second in the MISL with 34 blocks.  Morris was also the MISL Defensive Player of the Month in November and January.

Goalkeepers: Danny Waltman, Missouri Comets and Sagu, Baltimore Blast
Comets goalkeeper Danny Waltman went 3-1 in February, playing an important role in the Comets’ playoff drive.  Waltman turned in his best month of the season in February, punctuated by his play during the Comets’ three-game win streak in which Waltman did not surrender more than seven points in any game.  Waltman made multiple key saves in all three games, stopping point-blank shots with his hands and his legs.  After saving 10 of 17 shots in Chicago on the 6th, Waltman went on to save 21 of 24 at home against Chicago, 17 of 20 against Omaha, and 18 of 21 in Chicago, saving a total of 66 shots on 82 attempts for the month (an 80% clip).  To top off Waltman’s efforts in February, he scored a three-point goal in the Comets’ last game of the month, in Chicago on the 26th.

Blast goalkeeper Sagu boasted a perfect 4-0 record in February as part of his eight-game win streak, the longest win streak in the MISL this season.  Sagu allowed 18 goals (two three-point goals and 16 two-point goals) for a total of 38 points and a 4.41 GAA and a 9.31 PAA.  The Blast is tied with the Wave for first place in the MISL with one game remaining to clinch the regular season title.

Offensive: Byron Alvarez

Comets forward Byron Alvarez led the Comets resurgence and separated himself from the pack as the MISL scoring leader with 80 points, 13 points more than the second leading scorer.  In just four games, Alvarez notched 22 points in February, the best four-game stretch in the MISL this season.  In the four-game span, Alvarez had two gaming-winning goals, the first in the Comets’ come-from-behind victory at home against Chicago and then again five days later against Omaha in a pivotal game for both teams.  In that February 25th match against Omaha, Alvarez also recorded his fourth hat trick of the season.  In total, Alvarez scored nine goals in February, including one three-pointer, to go along with three assists.  Alvarez also leads the MISL with five game-winning goals and five hat tricks.  Led by Alvarez, the Comets are on a four-game win streak and hold a one-game lead over Omaha for the third and final postseason berth.
