Blast Beat Comets, 17-9, for First Home Win

In the team's last home game of 2011 and a rematch of last weekend's game between the Blast and Comets, the Blast beat the Missouri Comets, 17-9, to improve to 6-3 on the season.  Adauto Neto and Carlos Garcia led the way with two goals each.

Forwards Shaun David and Neto scored in the first quarter to give the Blast an early 4-0 lead over the visiting Missouri Comets.  Neto's goal came on the power play following a too-many-men-on-the-field penalty on the Comets.

The Comets tied the game at 4-4 on goals from the newly signed Tiguinho and Neto but Machel Millwood recaptured a 6-4 Blast lead just nine seconds after Missouri's Neto tied the game.  Matt Watson, who is playing in his last home game for the Blast, assisted Millwood's goal.  Watson will play in the Blast's next two road games, in Norfolk and Milwaukee, before heading to Vancouver to play with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC of Major League Soccer.

Garcia scored two goals in the first eight minutes of the second half to extend Baltimore's lead to 10-4.  His second goal was the Blast's second power-play goal of the game.  With David serving a two-minute striking penalty, Leo Gibson cut the Blast lead to 10-6 with a power-play goal late in the third quarter.  David was sent back to the penalty box less than four minutes later for a two-minute kicking penalty that lasted into the fourth quarter.

Neto scored his second goal of the night to put the Blast on top, 12-6, with a goal midway through the final quarter.  With just over two minutes remaining in the match, Tiguinho scored his second goal of the game, this one a three-pointer, to cut the Blast lead to 12-9 but Mike Lookingland scored a long-range three-point goal and the Ptah Myers added a goal, both against Missouri's sixth attacker for the 17-9 win.

The Blast will head south to Norfolk Sunday for a 4:30 match against the SharX.  Sunday will be the first of six meetings between the Blast and the SharX this season. The SharX are led by Miguel Ferrer and Brady Bryant who have 12 and 11 points on the season, respectively.

In last weekend's Blast vs. Comets game, the Blast led 10-4 heading into the final quarter of play in which the Comets fought back for the 12-10 victory.
