Led by Adauto Neto, the Blast improved to 9-3 and earned their second home win of the season with a 21-6 win over the Syracuse Silver Knights Friday night at 1st Mariner Arena. Machel Millwood set the pace early, scoring the first two goals of the match and rookie Stephen DeRoux also added two goals.
DeRoux's first goal, his first three-pointer, gave the Blast a 7-0 lead before Andriy Budnyy scored for the Silver Knights to cut into the Blast lead to 7-2. Carlos Garcia answered late in the quarter to make it 9-2.
The second quarter was more of the same as DeRoux scored his second goal of the game and Max Ferdinand and Neto added goals to give the Blast a 15-2 lead at the halftime break. Neto's goal came on the power play following a two-minute tripping penalty to Syracuse's Marcos Chantel.
Cory Elenio scored the first goal of the second half to make it 15-4 but Neto scored the next two goals to complete the hat trick and extend the Blast lead to 19-4. Ferdinand recorded his second goal of the night late in the third quarter to make it 21-4 and Jon Gruenewald scored the last goal of the game.
The Blast have scored 18 or more points four times this season, including an 18-10 win over the Silver Knights on November 27. The team scored a season-high 23 points on November 26 in a win over the Lancers.
The Blast will return to 1st Mariner Arena Saturday night to host the Rochester Lancers.
