Blast earn 18-12 win in last regular season home game

In front of 8,125 fans in the last home game of the regular season, Max Ferdinand led the Blast to an 18-12 win over the visiting Wichita Wings.  Ferdinand, one of seven Blast players who scored in the game, recorded two goals and five assists on the night.

The Blast wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Shaun David scored just 23 seconds into the match for an early 2-0 lead.  Bryan Perez tied the game at 2-2 just two minutes later but Carlos Garcia and Ferdinand added late first quarter goals to put the Blast on top 6-2.

Adriano Dos Santos led the way in the second quarter with two goals to give the Blast a 10-4 lead at halftime.  Kevin Ten Eyck scored a second-quarter power-play goal for the Wings while Garcia served a striking penalty.

Perez added his second goal in the seventh minute of the third quarter, a three-pointer that cut Baltimore's lead to 10-7.  Adauto Neto scored the next goal with the Blast on the power play but Perez answered less than a minute later to complete the hat trick and cut the Blast lead to 12-9. Stephen DeRoux and Ferdinand scored the last two goals of the quarter to put the Blast on top 16-9 after three quarters of play.

Blast leading scorer and MISL Offensive Player of the Month Machel Millwood added a fourth-quarter goal, as did Wichita's Chris Lemmons, to give the Blast the 18-12 victory.

The Blast will end the regular season Sunday at 4 in Syracuse. With just one regular-season games remaining, the Eastern Division regular season champion Baltimore Blast control their postseason destiny. A win Sunday would secure home-field advantage through the postseason, should the Blast beat the Lancers next week in the Eastern Division Finals to advance to the MISL Championship.

The Silver Knights, who will play the last game of their inaugural MISL season on Sunday, upset the Blast twice earlier this season. Led by Slavisa Ubiparapovic (61 points) and Jeffrey Hughes (53), the Silver Knights roster features five players who rank among the MISL's top 25 points scorers.

Syracuse, coming off a 9-6 overtime victory over the Wings, is looking to be the only team to win the season series against Baltimore. The Knights and Blast have split the series, 2-2 so far, with the Blast outscoring the Knights 55-46.
