Blast Beats KiXX, 16-10

The Baltimore Blast defeated the Philadelphia KiXX, 16-10, Saturday night at 1st Mariner Arena.  The Blast, 4-0, sit atop the NISL standings, two games ahead of the KiXX.  Machel Millwood led the Blast to victory with three goals.

Millwood scored two goals in the first quarter and PJ Wakefield added one goal late in the quarter to give Baltimore an early 6-0 lead.

Rookie Pat Healey scored the second goal of his career to extend Baltimore's lead to 8-0 before Pat Morris scored for the KiXX to make it 8-2. 

On the night of his 30th birthday, Giuliano Celenza scored in the third minute of the third quarter to put the Blast on top, 10-2.  Mike Lookingland added a goal midway through the quarter and then Millwood scored his third goal of the night to increase the Blast lead to 14-2.  Hewerton Moreira scored a three-point goal to cut the Blast lead to 14-5 shortly before Matt Watson scored another goal for the Blast to make it 16-5 at the end of the quarter.

Morris scored a three-point goal (Philadephia's second three-pointer of the match) early in the final quarter to make it 16-8.

The Blast is led by Matt Watson who has 12 points so far this season.  In goal, Sagu has allowed just seven goals in four games.  Newcomers Matt Tirschman and rookie Healey have made their presence known early – Tirschman has seven points on the season and Healey has two goals.

Saturday night was the first of five games this season between the Blast and the KiXX, rivals since the KiXX joined the NPSL for the 1996-97 season.  The two teams have combined to win six of the last seven League championships, with the Blast winning in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2008 and the KiXX winning in 2002 and 2007.  The teams have played each other 79 times in the regular season with the KiXX holding a 42-37 advantage in the all-time series though the Blast is 23-17 against the KiXX in Baltimore.
