Blast Earn 17-4 Win to Start 2013

The Blast opened 2013 with a convincing 17-4 win over the Rochester Lancers.  In a game that featured 19 penalty minutes, Blast rookie Lucas Roque led the way with two goals and goalkeeper William Vanzela made 14 saves in his league-leading sixth victory of the season.

Marco Mangione opened the scoring midway through the first quarter and Roque scored the next two, giving the Blast a 6-0 lead after one quarter of play.

The second quarter featured three-point goals from Machel Millwood and Lucio Gonzaga just 20 seconds apart and the teams combined for 15 penalty minutes.  The Blast earned nine of the 15 penalty minutes, with seven of the nine going to Millwood, and the Lancers recorded seven PIM in the quarter.  MISL leading scorer Doug Miller put the Lancers on the scoreboard late in the first half to cut the Blast lead to 12-2.

After a scoreless third quarter, Miller scored again to make it 12-4 but Adriano Dos Santos and Mike Lookingland scored late in the game to give the Blast the 17-4 victory.  The Blast, the first team in the MISL to record 10 wins this season, will return to 1st Mariner Arena Friday and Saturday night to host the Lancers in back-to-back weekend games.
