NISL PLAYER OF THE MONTH
Hewerton Moreira, Philadelphia KiXX
Despite only appearing in three of the team’s five December contests, the Santos, Brazil native led all NISL scorers with 17 points on two 3pgs, four 2pgs, and three assists. Moreira kicked-off the month with a game-high eight points in the team’s 18-7 win in Massachusetts on December 6, before adding six and three points, respectively, versus Monterrey on December 13 and in Baltimore on December 20. Overall this season, the 29-year-old forward ranks tied for first atop the NISL leaderboard with 25 points. Moreira also leads the NISL in three-point goals (three) and ranks second in the League in two-point goals (nine).
Pat Morris, Philadelphia KiXX
The Philadelphia native posted 17 points and a team-best nine blocks in the club’s five contests in the month of December. Morris started the month with an assist in Massachusetts on December 6 and two dimes against Monterrey on December 13, but finished strong posting a team-high seven points on a three-point goal and two two-point goals in Baltimore on December 20 and a hat trick (three two-point goals) in Monterrey on December 28. He also recorded an assist in Monterrey on December 26. On the season, the five-time All-League representative has registered 25 points (tied first NISL) and nine blocks.
Sagu, Baltimore Blast
Blast goalkeeper Sagu, who started each of Baltimore’s three games in December, went 3-0 on the month and remains the only unbeaten goalkeeper in the NISL with a 5-0 record on the season. Sagu allowed just six goals in December and just one goal in the team’s 11-2 win over Rockford (12/6) and in the Blast’s 27-2 win over Massachusetts (12/12). Last season’s Goalkeeper of the Year, he boasted a 5.60 points against average a 2.40 goals against average and an .800 save percentage in December. Sagu currently leads the NISL in wins (five), PAA (5.44), GAA 2.47 and save percentage (.770).
About the National Indoor Soccer League
The National Indoor Soccer League was launched in September of 2008 and consists of five founding members; the Baltimore Blast, La RaZa de Monterrey, Philadelphia KiXX, Rockford Rampage and the Massachusetts Twisters. The NISL has formed a working relationship with the United Soccer Leagues (USL) and will become a member of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF).
The NISL kicked off its inaugural season on November 15th and will continue through March with the playoffs taking place the first two weeks of April.
