Roque Named to the MISL Team of the Week

Rochester’s Fauske Named Player of the Week - Scored twice to keep Lancers’ playoff hopes alive against Milwaukee

The Major Indoor Soccer League announced that Rochester Lancers midfielder Elliot Fauske has been named the league’s Player of the Week for the 17th week of the 2012-13 season. Fauske had a pair of goals as the Lancers claimed the first victory in the club’s history against the Milwaukee Wave on Sunday, keeping their hopes of reaching the MISL Playoffs alive in the process.

Fauske was a presence all over the field on Sunday, and tied the game with the Lancers’ first goal late in the second quarter. He then added a second goal to begin Rochester’s fight back from a three-point deficit in the fourth quarter, which was capped by Doug Miller’s game-winning goal a little more than two minutes later.

Fauske was joined on the Team of the Week by teammate Evan McNeley, who put in a pair of strong performances as the Lancers won both of their games. McNeley had a 3-point goal and five blocked shots in the Lancers’ 11-10 win against Wichita on Monday, February 18, and then recorded three blocks against his former side as the Lancers edged the Wave.

Chicago’s Jeff Richey earned the goalkeeper spot after coming six seconds from his second shutout of the season in the Soul’s 13-2 victory against Missouri on Friday night. Richey made 16 saves in the win, which moved the Soul within a victory of the MISL Playoffs in their inaugural season.

Missouri’s Brian Harris was selected as the second defender after he recorded a pair of 3-point goals in the second quarter of the Comets’ 15-11 win against Wichita on Sunday. Missouri, which trailed 6-0 after the first quarter, was sparked to victory by the pair of strikes, which clinched its berth in the MISL Playoffs.

Completing the Team of the Week are Syracuse’s Neto and Baltimore’s Lucas Roque, who had a pair of goals in the Blast’s 10-6 victory against Milwaukee on Saturday night. Neto also struck twice for Syracuse in its 15-10 win against Wichita on Friday, helping keep the Silver Knights’ playoff hopes alive.

The 2012-13 MISL season continues on Wednesday night as the Milwaukee Wave visit the Syracuse Silver Knights at 7 p.m. ET at The Oncenter, and the Chicago Soul host the Missouri Comets at 8 p.m. ET at the Sears Centre Arena. The Soul can clinch the fourth and final playoff berth with a win, while a win for the Comets would clinch the No. 3 seed in the MISL Playoffs.

Should the Comets defeat the Soul, Friday night sees Syracuse visit Chicago for a potential playoff eliminator at the Sears Centre Arena at 8:30 p.m. The Silver Knights could draw even with Chicago for the fourth playoff berth with a victory and one win from two against Milwaukee, with Syracuse also visiting U.S. Cellular Arena on Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET. The Wave then conclude the MISL regular season on Sunday afternoon as they host the Wichita Wings at 4 p.m. ET
