MISL February Players of the Month Named
Baltimore’s Vanzela, Myers and Milwaukee’s Bennett honored
The Major Indoor Soccer League announced its Players of the Month for February, with the Baltimore Blast’s William Vanzela taking Goalkeeper of the Month honors and Ptah Myers earning the Defensive Player of the Month award. The Milwaukee Wave’s Ian Bennett completed the trio of honorees, earning the Offensive Player of the Month award.
Selections were based on individual performances in games played through February 28, with nominations being received throughout the month from each team in the MISL.
Baltimore’s Vanzela played a key role as the Blast sealed the MISL Regular Season championship, going a perfect 5-0 with an 8.80 goals-against average. The Italian Futsal international allowed four goals or fewer in three of the five victories, including a nine-save performance in the Blast’s 10-6 victory against Milwaukee that earned them the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Wave and eventually top spot in the league.
Vanzela’s performances were complemented by the standout work of Myers in the Blast’s defense. The stalwart also added offensive punch to his stellar play defensively for the Blast in February, recording at least a point in each game while finishing with 21 points in five games. Myers’ standout performances came in back-to-back wins against Missouri and Wichita in which he recorded hat tricks in both contests.
Milwaukee’s Bennett carried the bulk of the Wave’s attacking load in February, finishing with 33 points as he more than doubled his output for the remainder of the season. Bennett, who scored a goal in each of the Wave’s games in February, recorded back-to-back hat tricks for Milwaukee in contests against Missouri and Chicago.
