WAVE SHUTS OUT BLAST IN HOME OPENER
It was a bittersweet night for the 8,780 Baltimore Blast fans in attendance, as they celebrated the hanging of their 2013 championship banner, but were unable to come up with a win against the Milwaukee Wave, losing 8-0 in their home opener.
The long-time rivals both entered the game coming off season opening wins. The first quarter was a defensive struggle as the Blast only allowed one goal by Milwaukee’s JC Banks, but was held scoreless. The game remained a defensive contest into the second quarter, as the Blast allowed only two goals to Milwaukee’s Banks and Hewerton, but again was shutout and entered halftime down 8-0.
The second half remained tight as no points were scored in the third and fourth quarters. The Blast were aggressive all game outshooting the Wave, 20 to 10. But they were unable to convert, as they were shutout for the first time in five years, in a loss against Philadelphia on January 5, 2008.
Milwaukee’s JC Banks was the game’s top scorer with 5 points. Team Captain Mike Lookingland recorded a game high 4 blocks.
