Blast Beats Twisters, 23-9, Saturday Night

The Baltimore Blast defeated the Massachusetts Twisters, 23-9, at Eastern States Coliseum Saturday night.  The first-place Blast are 10-2 on the season after back-to-back weekend wins over the Twisters and the Rockford Rampage, 9-4, Friday night at 1st Mariner Arena.  Machel Millwood, who returned Friday night from an ankle injury, played in the 100th game of his career and led the Blast with five goals and two assists.

Defender Mike Lookingland put the Blast on the scoreboard first with a three-pointer at the 5:31 mark but the Twisters answered quickly, cutting Baltimore's lead to 3-2 less than a minute later, with a goal from Everson Maciel.  Scott Buete scored in the eighth minute and Millwood scored twice late in the quarter, once on the power play, to increase the Blast lead to 9-2.

Maciel scored his second goal of the night, just three minutes into the second quarter, to cut into the Blast lead and make it 9-4.  Millwood completed his first-half hat trick in the ninth minute to give Baltimore an 11-4 lead at halftime.

Rookie Adrian Bumbut, who recorded 12 points in Massachusetts last weekend, scored early in the second half to make it 13-4 and Millwood scored his fourth goal of the game to put the Blast on top, 15-4.  Pedro Navarro scored in the seventh minute to keep the Twisters in the game and make the score 15-6.

Giuliano Celenza, Millwood and PJ Wakefield scored in the final quarter to extend the Blast lead to 21-6 with 10 minutes remaining in the match.  Celenza scored just 15 seconds into the quarter, followed by Millwood then Wakefield and then Celenza again to make it 23-6.  Wakefield assisted Celenza's second goal, Matt Tirschman added two assists on the night and Carlos Garcia recorded one assist.  Jay Willis scored a three-point goal, his first goal of the season, to give the Blast the 23-9 victory.

The Twisters' nine points and four goals are the most points and goals they have scored against the Blast this season.
