Baltimore, MD- Baltimore Blast President and General Manager, Kevin Healey, announced today that defender Mike Deasel has retired and the team has signed forward Andrew Hoxie and midfielder Jeremy Ortiz. The Baltimore Blast will be playing in the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) this season coming off a season in which they finished 18-2.

Deasel appeared in 20 playoff games for the Blast recording 2 goals and was a member of the 2013 Baltimore Blast Championship Team.

Baltimore Blast General Manager, Kevin Healey, said “Mike Deasel followed a long tradition of Baltimore youth soccer players who were able to step up and make the transition to being an outstanding professional with the Baltimore Blast. Mike has always been a winner and he brought that mentality to his play with the Blast. In addition to being an excellent defender, Mike was great in the community. He will be missed by the Blast and we wish him the best of luck as he starts his career as a firefighter in Baltimore County”.

Andrew Hoxie is coming off a season with the Rochester Lancers where he recorded 19 goals, 18 assists, and 37 regular season points which was third for the Lancers and in the top 25 of the MASL. In Hoxie’s first season of indoor soccer in 2011, he recorded 45 points in 21 games for the Lancers which included 16 goals and 13 assists. In 2012, Hoxie had his best indoor season yet with the Wichita Wings. He was 17th in the league with 49 points, he recorded 22 goals in 24 games and added 4 assists.

Hoxie, who attended William and Mary where he was the 2009 CAA Player of the year and a 3rd team All American, was the 37th overall pick of the 2010 MSL SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes before joining the Rochester Rhinos later in 2010. In his first season with the Rhinos, he recorded 5 assists and finished with 11 points before returning in 2011 to lead the Rhinos in scoring with 5 goals and 12 points.

Jeremy Ortiz played in 15 games at midfield for the Rochester Lancers last season joining the team after the season had already begun. Ortiz recorded 9 goals and 9 assists for 18 points which was fifth best for the Lancers.

Ortiz attended LaSalle University and was a four-year starter and captain. He was a three-time A-10 All-Conference selection. He began his indoor career in 2008 when he was the first pick in the territorial round of the 2008 MISL Amateur Draft by the New Jersey Ironmen. He played 2 seasons for the Philadelphia Kixx before heading to Rochester in 2011 where he contributed 17 goals, 11 assists, and 45 points. He followed that up in 2012 with 36 points.

Ortiz has played outdoor for Dandenong City SC in the National Premier League 1 where he recorded 3 goals and 7 assists in 14 games. He also played for Fitztoy Futsal Club in the Nike V-League Premiership where he recorded 7 goals and 10 assists in 12 games.

Blast head coach, Danny Kelly, said "We're excited to add two experienced and quality players in Andrew Hoxie and Jeremy Ortiz. In my mind, Andrew is one of the top target forwards in the league.  He has the ability to hold the ball up and keep possession, and both can score goals and dish out assists equally well.  I think he'll be able to have an immediate impact in helping us win games.  Jeremy is another great addition who will help us be successful right away.  He's a quality, experienced midfielder who knows what it takes to win games in this league.  He's got a great work rate, he wins tackles, and he can score goals.  I'm looking forward to having both Andrew and Jeremy on the Blast this season with the goal of competing for a championship".

Blast season tickets, five-game mini plans and single game tickets are on sale now through the Blast office.  For additional information on Blast tickets, call the Blast office at 410-73-BLAST or email
