BLAST WIN EASTERN DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP
DEFEAT SILVER KNIGHTS 4-3
The Blast traveled to Syracuse on Sunday afternoon for game 2 of the Eastern Division Championship Series. After winning game 1 in Baltimore 6-5 the Blast were able to win the series with a 4-3 victory over the Silver Knights.
The Silver Knights scored the only goal of the opening quarter at the 12:10 mark when Antonio Manfut found the back of the net. At the end of the first the Blast trailed 1-0.
The Blast offense would come alive in the second quarter when Tony Donatelli tied the game at 1 off an assist from Pat Healey. At the 12:48 mark the Blast would gain the lead when Pat Healey would score his 3rd goal of the series. At the half the Blast led 2-1.
Both teams came out aggressive in the second half as four goals were scored in the third quarter. The Blast would get a goal from Jinho Kim at the 3:16 mark. The Silver Knights would then tie the game at 3 with back to back goals from Gary Boughton and Darren Toby. Before the end of the quarter the Blast would answer when Jonatas Melo found the back of the net. The Blast entered the final quarter leading 4-3.
The Blast defense was able to shut down the Syracuse attack during the fourth quarter. There were no goals in the quarter as William Vanzela and Pat Healey shut the door to clinch the game and the series for the Blast. At the final buzzer the Blast defeated the Silver Knights 4-3 and claimed the Eastern Division Championship.
The Blast were led by team captain, Pat Healey, who recorded a goal and added an assist and Jonatas Melo who recorded the game winning goal. Blast goalkeeper, William Vanzela, recorded 14 saves in the victory.
The Blast advance to the Eastern Conference Championship where they will take on the winner of the Missouri Comets and Milwaukee Wave series.
