BLAST DEFEATED BY WAVE 4-3
The Baltimore Blast hosted the Milwaukee Wave on Friday night in front of 7,813 fans at the Royal Farms Arena. After an exciting pregame ceremony recognizing the 2016 championship team which included ring distributions and the raising of the championship banner the Blast competed against the Wave. Falling just short of a comeback, the Wave were able to defeat the Blast 4-3.
The Wave would record the first goal of the game when Max Ferdinand found the back of the net at the 10:30 mark. After a Blast penalty the Wave were awarded a shootout attempt where Ferdinand assisted Ian Bennett for the second Wave goal. The Blast would answer in the final minute of the quarter when Vini Dantas recorded his fifth goal of the season for the Blast assisted by Jonathan Melo. At the end of the first the Blast trailed 2-1.
The Wave would strike again in the second quarter with a goal from Robert Renaud. Both teams played solid defense and the Blast were held without a shot in the quarter. Blast goalkeeper, William Vanzela, recorded 6 saves in the half and the Blast went into the locker room trailing 3-1.
Only :17 seconds into the second half the Wave would extend their lead to three with a goal from Sean Totsch. The rest of the quarter was a defensive battle with the Blast recording 1 shot and the Wave recording 2. The Blast entered the final quarter trailing 4-1.
At the 5:10 mark in the fourth quarter Andrew Hoxie would score his third goal of the season off an assist from Tony Donatelli. This was Donatelli’s league leading 6th assist. On a power play at the 11:38 mark the Blast would cut the Wave lead to 1 when Tony Donatelli found the back of the net on a goal assisted by Nelson Santana. The Blast comeback would fall short despite recording 11 shots in the quarter. The Blast were defeated 4-3.
Tony Donatelli led the Blast offensively with a goal and an assist. Vine Dantas and Andrew Hoxie also recorded goals in the game. William Vanzela recorded 7 saves.
