Blast Defeat Silver Knights 8-7 in OT

Led by 2 goals each from Donatelli and Dantas


The Blast remain undefeated at home after defeating Syracuse 8-7 in overtime. In front of a sellout crowd of 3,800, Tony Donatelli and Vini Dantas each scored two goals for the Blast. Slavisa Ubiparipovic and Nate Bordeau had two goals each for Syracuse.


The teams traded goals in the first 4 minutes of the game. Baltimore got on the board first on a goal by Adriano Dos Santos. Syracuse would answer with a goal by Slavisa Ubiparipovic to tie the game. Baltimore then scored two straight goals from Marco Nascimento and Tony Donatelli. Syracuse answered with two straight goals of their own to start the second quarter. Nate Bordeau and Darren Toby scored for the Silver Knights to tie the game at 3. Andrew Hoxie scored for the Blast to give them a 4-3 lead going into halftime.


Baltimore would score the first goal of the 2nd half on a goal by Pat Healey to take a 2-goal lead. Syracuse then answered with two straight goals of their own. Nate Bordeau scored his second goal of the game and Pat Thompson scored to tie the game at 5-5. Vini Dantas scored for the Blast to regain the lead early in the 4th quarter. Joey Tavernese and Slavisa Ubiparipovic scored two straight for Syracuse to give the Silver Knights a 7-6 lead with under seven minutes to go in the game. Vini Dantas scored his second of the game with the 6th attacker on the field with 2:24 left in regulation to send the game to overtime. Tony Donatelli scored off a free kick from an assist by Pat Healey 5:49 into overtime to give the Blast an 8-7 win.


The win is the 8th straight win overall for the Blast, and the 9th straight at home to start the year. Andrew Hoxie and Pat Healey each recorded one goal and one assist, and Jonatas Melo had two assists for the Blast. Goalkeeper Joey Kapinos had 17 saves in the game. Ubiparipovic had 4 points and Joey Tavernese had one goal and two assists for Syracuse. Goalkeeper Andrew Coughlin recorded 14 saves in the game for the Silver Knights.


The Blast are back in action next Saturday, February 10th when they travel to Milwaukee to take on the Wave at 2:05 p.m. EST. The game can be streamed at or on the MASL app.
