Blast Fall to Heat 5-4
The Baltimore Blast hosted the Harrisburg Heat on Saturday night in game one of the MASL Divisional Finals. In an intense matchup the Blast were defeated 5-4.
The Heat came out aggressive recording 3 goals in the opening quarter. Leandro Albas Duarte, Dominic Francis, and Elmo Neto all recorded Heat goals while holding the Blast offense scoreless. Carlos Freitas recorded two assists for the Heat and at the end of the first Harrisburg led 3-0.
The Blast would get on the board in the second quarter when the Blast points leader, Tony Donatelli, found the back of the net off an assist from Lucas Roque. At the 8:33 mark the Heat would push the lead back to three with a goal from Tom Mellor assisted by Chile Farias. At the half the Heat led 4-1.
In the third quarter the Blast would strike first with a goal from Geaton Caltabiano but the Heat would answer when Tom Mellor recorded his second goal of the game off a set piece. In the last minute of the quarter the Blast would pull within two when Juan Pereira found the back of the net off an assist from Vini Dantas. The Blast entered the final quarter trailing the Heat 5-3.
The Blast were aggressive in the fourth quarter to make a comeback. At the 6:35 mark Vini Dantas recorded his 21st goal of the season on a power play opportunity. The goal was assisted by Adriano Dos Santos. Despite outshooting the Heat 10-2 in the final quarter the Blast comeback fell short. At the final buzzer the Heat defeated the Blast 5-4.
Blast forward, Tony Donatelli, said “It was a disappointing result. We came out flat and got behind early. We tried to battle back but unfortunately we lost the first game. We are confident we can go up to Harrisburg and win both games."
The Blast were led by Vini Dantas who recorded a goal and an assist on the night. In net for the Blast, William Vanzela recorded 9 saves.
The Blast will travel to Harrisburg for game two and the potential mini game on Tuesday, March 14th. Kickoff is at 7:35 p.m. from the Farm Show Arena.
