The Comets Beat the Blast, 12-10, Friday

12/08/2011 1:12 PM -

The Missouri Comets snapped Baltimore's five-game winning streak with a 12-10 victory at 1st Mariner Arena Friday night.  The Blast, led by Max Ferdinand's hat trick, led most of the game but Missouri's Geison scored the game-winner with 32 seconds left in the match.  The Blast will return to the field Saturday night to host the Syracuse Silver Knights.

Comets defender Ryan Junge scored the first goal of the game to give the Comets an early 2-0 lead before Ferdinand scored his first goal to tie the game at 2-2.

Ferdinand scored the only goal of the second quarter to put the Blast on top, 4-2 and added his third goal in the sixth minute of the third quarter.  Rookie J.T. Noone scored early in the quarter and Machel Millwood scored on a penalty kick to extend Baltimore's lead to 10-2.  Geison answered for the Comets less than a minute after Millwood's goal to cut the lead to 10-4.

Lucas Rodriguez scored in the 10th minute of the final quarter then assisted Cristiano's three-point goal less than three minutes later to bring the Comets to within one point, 10-9.  Geison's game-winner came with just 32 seconds remaining.  The game marked Baltimore's first loss to Missouri since the Comets joined the MISL last season.

Friday was Purple Pride night featuring Torrey Smith. Smith, who played football at Maryland before going pro, hosted "Throw to the Pro" at halftime

On Saturday the Blast will host the 3-5 Silver Knights who are led by Slavisa Ubiparapovic and Andre Berenzon. The Blast and Silver Knights have split the season series to date with each team winning on the road. The Blast is looking for a home win against Syracuse and the Silver Knights are looking to snap a five-game losing streak.
