Blast Beats Rampage, 9-4, at 1st Mariner Arena

02/20/2009 9:08 AM - The first-place Baltimore Blast defeated the Rockford Rampage, 9-4, Friday night at 1st Mariner Arena to improve to 9-2 on the season.  Four different players scored in the match, including team captain PJ Wakefield who scored the game-winning goal on the night that 2,000 fans received free Wakefield bobble heads.  The Blast will leave Baltimore Friday night to travel to West Springfield, Ma. for a Saturday-night match against the Twisters.

After a scoreless first quarter, Carlos Garcia scored midway through the second quarter to give the Blast a 2-0 lead.

Jamar Beasley and Enrique Tovar scored early in the second half to tie the game at 2-2 and then give Rockford a 4-2 lead before Wakefield scored his three-pointer in the 12th minute of the quarter to put the Blast back on top, 5-4.

Machel Millwood and Scott Buete scored in the final quarter to give the Blast a 9-4 lead.  Denison Cabral assisted Millwood's goal to record the 899th point of his career.  He will be just the third player in franchise history to record 900 career points and the first to do it all while playing in Baltimore.

The Baltimore Blast sit atop the NISL standings with an 9-2 record, two-and-a-half games ahead of the second-place Monterrey La RaZaThe Blast recorded a record-setting 37-5 win over the Twisters last Saturday night in Massachusetts and will leave immediately Friday night’s game to travel back to West Springfield for a rematch against the Twisters.
