Pat Morris Named MISL Defender of the Year

Veteran Defender Ranked Among the League-Leading Defensive and Offensive Players

Wednesday, March 23, 2011 - The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Baltimore Blast veteran defender Pat Morris has been voted the 2010-11 MISL Defender of the Year. The 33-year-old native of Philadelphia recently completed his 12th indoor soccer season, his first with Baltimore, and is awaiting his third Championship appearance.  Morris ranked second in the MISL with 36 blocks and tied for 10th with 42 points.

A 10-time All-League selection, Morris recorded four three-point goals, 12 two-point goals and six assists this season.  He was also the Defender of the Year in 2005 and 2009 and is a four-time All-Star and two-time Champion (2002 and 2007).  Morris, the MISL Defensive Player of the Month in November, January and February, recorded at least one point in 13 games and went on a nine-game goal-scoring streak from January 9th to February 20th.  In 12 seasons, he has played in 357 games and recorded 511 points on 205 goals and 124 assists; he has 577 career blocks.  Morris recorded the 500th point of his career and the 200th goal of his career on February 18th when he scored two goals in the Blast’s win over the Omaha Vipers. 

To determine winners of the postseason awards, members of the media, MISL coaches and general managers were asked to cast votes for first-place (worth five points), second-place (three points) and third-place (one point) for the MISL Defender of the Year.

About the Major Indoor Soccer League
The MISL represents the Major League of professional indoor soccer in the United States and features the finest indoor soccer players from around the world. The league has five member clubs for the 2010-11 season: the Baltimore Blast, Chicago Riot, Milwaukee Wave, Missouri Comets and Omaha Vipers.  The 2010-11 regular season began on November 12 and ended on March 13; the postseason began March 16 with the Milwaukee Wave and Missouri Comets facing each other in the Semifinals.  The Wave beat the Comets, two games to one, to advance to play the Baltimore Blast in the 2011 MISL Championship Game on Friday, March 25 at 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore.  For more information about the MISL, visit the League’s official website
