BLAST FINALIZES ROSTER WITH ADDITION OF MIDFIELDER
Team to Open 2011-12 Season at 1st Mariner Arena Saturday Night
Baltimore Blast President and General Manager Kevin Healey announced that the team has completed its 18-man roster with the signing of midfielder Nicki Paterson, pending league approval. The Blast will open the season Saturday against the Syracuse Silver Knights at 1st Mariner Arena at 7:35.
Paterson, the 2011 Charleston Battery Team MVP after leading the team in goals (six), assists (four) and points (16), was also named to the USL Pro Team of the Week three times this summer. He came to the U.S. in 2005 to play collegiate soccer at UNLV where he was a four-year starter and was named Second-Team All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation as a sophomore (2006). Paterson has also previously played for Real Maryland (USL-2), the Harrisburg City Islanders (USL-2) and the Des Moines Menace (PDL). He made his professional debut in Scotland at age 17 with Motherwell FC (1999-2002) and then joined Hamilton Academical FC (2002-05).
“Nicki Paterson is new to indoor soccer, but is a versatile player whose game will translate well,” said Blast head coach Danny Kelly. “Nicki is a player whose engine doesn't stop – he can get up and down the field and he's a good passer with very good vision. He is capable of playing multiple positions and will have an immediate impact on the team.”
In other Blast news, the team has released forward Adrian Bumbut. Bumbut spent the last three seasons with the Blast and recorded 11 goals and 26 points in 29 games.
One week into the 2011-12 MISL season, the Missouri Comets sit atop the Central Division standings with two wins and Baltimore’s opening-night opponent, the Silver Knights, are 1-0 after a 16-15 victory over Rochester last weekend. Syracuse will play tomorrow night in Norfolk before heading to Baltimore for Saturday’s match.
