BLAST ADDS VETERAN MIDFIELDER FOR 2012
Baltimore Blast President and General Manager Kevin Healey announced that the team has signed midfielder Ricardinho, pending league approval. Ricardinho, who began his indoor career in the 2003-04 season, will join the Blast this week and will play his first games on January 6 and 7 at 1st Mariner Arena. The Blast, 8-3 and in first place in the Eastern Division, will host the Syracuse Silver Knights and Rochester Lancers this weekend.
Ricardinho, a nine-year veteran from Sao Paulo, Brazil, began his professional indoor soccer career with the Dallas Sidekicks and made stops with the Milwaukee Wave, California Cougars, Detroit Ignition, Philadelphia KiXX and Omaha Vipers before joining the Blast. A 2009 All-NISL First-Team selection, he won an MISL Championship in 2005 with the Milwaukee Wave and advanced to the championship game in 2007 with the Ignition. He has also played for Brazil’s national indoor soccer team and spent two seasons with Aviacion of Lima, Peru (1999-2000) and one season with Palmeiras of Brazil.
“I am excited to acquire Ricardinho’s services,” said head coach Danny Kelly. “He is a proven player in this league and will make us better immediately, especially with the departure of Matt Watson. Ricardinho’s ability on the ball is second to none in this league.”
In other Blast news, forward Matt Watson played his last game with the Blast Saturday in Milwaukee. The Blast released Watson on January 1 to enable him to sign a contract with Major League Soccer club Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
