Baltimore’s Myers Named Player of the Week
Recorded a pair of hat tricks as Blast swept weekend trip
The Major Indoor Soccer League announced that Baltimore Blast defender Ptah Myers has been named the league’s Player of the Week for the 15th week of the 2012-13 season. Myers recorded a hat trick in both of the Blast’s victories against the Wichita Wings and Missouri Comets this past weekend.
Myers played a key role as the Blast rallied from a five-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Wings on Fridat night, 17-11. He opened his account in the first half, scoring his side’s opening goal of the game after it had fallen behind 7-0. Myers then scored two of the Blast’s five goals in the final 5:03 of the game as they went on an 11-0 run to claim victory.
Myers’ run of form continued on Sunday as he was one of five Blast players to record at least six points in the game. Myers’ first gave the Blast a two-point halftime lead late in the second quarter, and he then added a pair of goals in the fourth as Baltimore pulled away for a 27-13 win against Missouri.
A pair of Myers’ teammates on the Blast also earned Team of the Week honors, with goalkeeper William Vanzela earning a second consecutive nod after recording 26 saves in a pair of victories. Lucio Gonzaga was also selected after recording nine points in two games, scoring what proved to be the game-winner against Wichita before adding two goals and two assists against Missouri.
Milwaukee also had a pair of players honored, with Nick Perera recording a pair of key goals in its victory against the Rochester Lancers and Israel Sesay continuing his recent run of good form with a five-point game.
Rochester’s Mauricio Salles rounded out the Team of the Week lineup after recording five goals and three assists in the Lancers’ two outings. Salles played a key role as Rochester took a 19-15 win against the Chicago Soul on Friday, recording a hat trick and two assists in the victory.
The 2012-13 MISL season continues on Saturday afternoon as the Lancers host the Syracuse Silver Knights at 1 p.m. ET in a renewal of the I-90 Rivalry. That night, the Baltimore Blast host the Wichita Wings at 7:35 p.m. ET at 1st Mariner Arena.
