BLAST ANNOUNCES 3 PLAYER SIGNINGS
BLAST SIGN 2 RETURNING PLAYERS AND 1 NEW MEMBER
Baltimore – Baltimore Blast President and General Manager, Kevin Healey, announced today that the team has re-signed 2 players from last year’s squad. The returning players are midfielder Tony Donatelli and forward Lucas Roque. In addition, the team has signed defender Onua Obasi who currently plays for the Rochester Rhinos in the USL Pro outdoor league. The Baltimore Blast will be playing in the newly formed Major Arena Soccer League this coming season which will have teams throughout the United States and Mexico.
“Being able to re-sign Tony Donatelli and Lucas Roque and add a talented newcomer in Onua Obasi is huge for the franchise” said Blast head coach Danny Kelly. Kelly added “Tony not only gives us veteran leadership and character in the locker room, but also a proven goal scorer who is a threat in scoring every time he’s on the floor. Lucas is another dynamic offensive player with great foot skills, capable of playing with his back to goal and scoring goals in bunches. Both will play a critical part in our team’s success this season. Onua is a talented, left-footed player who played for England’s National Futsal team. He’s an offensive-minded defender with the ability to go by opposing players with skill and pace. Although this will be his first indoor season, we think that he can have an immediate impact in terms of helping us get results.”
Midfielder Tony Donatelli will be entering his fifth season of professional indoor soccer and his third season with the Blast. Last year Donatelli led the team in goals scored with 19. Donatelli also recorded 9 assists for a total of 48 points. His 48 points ranked second on the team. Donatelli is currently playing outdoor professional soccer for the Ottawa Fury in the North American Soccer League.
Forward Lucas Roque will be starting season number three of professional indoor soccer with the Blast. Last year, Roque was fourth on the team with 35 points including 11 goals and 12 assists. His 12 assists ranked second on the team. Roque was named to the all-rookie team for the 2012-2013 season.
Newcomer Onua Obasi will be joining the Blast after he completes his first professional outdoor season playing for the Rochester Rhinos in the USL Pro league. Obasi has played 15 games for the Rhinos as a left defender. Obasi was also a member of the England National Futsal team.
These three signings bring the total of signed players to nine as the Blast prepare to compete in the Major Arena Soccer League. Previously, the Blast had announced the signing of William Vanzela, Adauto Neto, Pat Healey, Lucio Gonzaga, Jerjer Gibson and Adriano Dos Santos.
