BLAST OPEN SEASON WITH WIN OVER SILVER KNIGHTS
The 2014-15 MASL season kicked off on Saturday night with the Baltimore Blast defeating the Syracuse Silver Knights by a score of 16-7.
The game opened up to a fast start with 4 goals in the first quarter. Baltimore’s first goal of the season was a power play 3-point goal from Max Ferdinand assisted by Tony Donatelli. Syracuse was able to answer quickly as Antonio Manfut scored followed by Nelson Santana putting the Silver Knights up 4-3. The Blast regained the lead after Lucio Gonzaga recorded a 3-point goal at the 5:54 mark. Pat Healey assisted the goal bringing the score at the end of the first to 6-4 Blast.
With 9:03 left the Silver Knights found the back of the net with a 3-point goal giving them the lead 6-4. The Blast then settled in during the remainder of the second quarter. After a Silver Knight penalty the Blast were able to take advantage of the shootout opportunity as Lucio Gonzaga registered his second goal of the night with 2:32 remaining in the half. Moments later Diego Zuniga found the back of the net off an assist from Kaoru Forbess. With only 30 seconds remaining in the half Max Ferdinand was able to break away and score another goal for the Blast. The first half ended with the score 12-7.
The second half showcased defense as both teams got minimal scoring chances. Adriano Dos Santos was assisted by Diego Zuniga with 1:47 left to score the lone goal of the quarter. At the end of the 3rd the Blast led the Silver Knights 14-7.
Max Ferdinand completed the hat trick in the fourth quarter on a goal that was assisted by Adauto Neto. The final score ended Blast 16 Silver Knights 7.
The Blast move to 1-0 on the season. Max Ferdinand and his 3-goal performance led the offense. Defensively, William Vanzela recorded 8 saves while Pat Healey and Adriano Dos Santos recorded two blocks each.
The Blast look forward to hosting another divisional opponent, the Detroit Waza Flo on November 14th. The game will be played at the Royal Farms Arena, kickoff at 7:35pm.
