Blast Fall to Legends In Overtime


The Blast traveled to the west coast Friday night to match up with the Las Vegas Legends for the first time in over two decades. In a back and forth game, the Blast fell in overtime to the Legends 5-4 for their first loss of the season.

The game got off to a fast start with five goals scored in the opening quarter. The Legends struck early with a goal 30 seconds into the game by Felipe Gonzalez. At the 6:53 mark the Legends struck again taking a 2-0 lead off a goal from Ivan Simental. The Blast were able to answer when Adriano Dos Santos scored an outstanding bicycle kick goal to get the Blast on the board and swing momentum. At the 9:44 mark Max Ferdinand weaved through the defense and scored his 10th goal of the year tying the game at 2. After a Legends penalty the Blast were able to convert on a powerplay when Vini Dantas scored at the 12:19 mark to give the Blast their first lead of the night. At the end of the quarter the Blast led 3-2.  


There were no goals recorded in the second quarter as the Blast were able to control possession and shut down the Legends attack. Defender Pat Healey had 4 blocked shots entering the half while the Blast outshot the Legends 20-9. At the half the Blast led 3-2.


The second half began with the Legends tying the game at the 3:56 mark with a goal from Christian Segura. The Blast were able to regain the lead when Diego Zuniga scored his 9th goal of the season off an assist from Pat Healey. Pat Healey also contributed 3 more blocks while goalkeeper William Vanzela recorded 3 saves in the quarter. The Blast went into the final quarter leading 4-3.


During the fourth quarter the Legends tied the game when Eric Guzman scored at the 4:38 mark. The goal would stand as the only score of the quarter sending the game to overtime. Just 36 seconds into the overtime Ivan Simental found the back of the net for the Legends handing the Blast their first loss of the season. The final score was 5-4.


The Blast fall to 13-1 on the season. The Blast were led offensively by Adriano Dos Santos, Max Ferdinand, Vini Dantas, and Diego Zuniga who all recorded goals on the night. Pat Healey who leads the league in blocks had 8 tonight and recorded his team leading 12th assist.


The Blast are back in action tomorrow night for a very tough game against long time rival the San Diego Sockers. The game kicks off at 10:05 p.m.
