Baltimore’s Ferdinand Named Player of the Week
Scored nine points in two games to lead Blast to weekend sweep
The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that Baltimore Blast midfielder Max Ferdinand had been named the league’s Player of the Week for the fourth week of the 2012-13 season. Ferdinand scored nine points in two matches as the Blast earned victories on the road against the Wichita Wings and Missouri Comets to remain undefeated this season.
Ferdinand opened the Blast’s trip to the Midwest with a goal and three assists in a 15-8 victory against the Wings this past Friday night. After giving the Blast a 4-2 lead early in the second quarter, Ferdinand then assisted on both of Machel Millwood’s goals before setting up Tony Donatelli for the Blast’s final tally of the night
The following night, Ferdinand was as impressive as the Blast handed the Comets their first loss of the season. Ferdinand assisted on two of Tino Nunez’s three goals, and added a second goal of the weekend himself, as the Blast took an impressive 12-4 victory to move to 7-0 this season. Ferdinand now has 23 points this season, trailing Millwood by a point for the league lead.
Joining Ferdinand on the MISL Team of the Week is his Blast teammate Troy Hernandez, who made 22 saves in Baltimore’s victory against the Comets. Hernandez was particularly spectacular in the fourth quarter as the Blast maintained their lead, making 14 saves as the Comets tried to rally.
Rochester’s Doug Miller and Brayton Knapp were also named after their five-point performances in the Lancers’ 16-8 win against Chicago Wednesday night. Miller is averaging more than four points per game this season, leading the Lancers with 17 points.
The Chicago Soul’s Matt Stewart and Carlos Muñoz round out the team after both players recorded hat tricks in their side’s 14-11 win against the Syracuse Silver Knights. Muñoz now leads the team with 20 points this season.
The 2012-13 MISL season continues on Friday night as the Missouri Comets visit the Syracuse Silver Knights at 7 p.m. ET at the OnCenter. The Comets then continue on to Rochester on Saturday night, with a clash against the Lancers set for 7 p.m. at the Blue Cross Arena. Also on Saturday, the Chicago Soul complete their seven-game road trip with a visit to the Milwaukee Wave at 6 p.m. CT at U.S. Cellular Arena.
