Biography:
2007-08 Season Highlights:
Nelson had sports hernia surgery in May... He scored his first three-pointer of the season in the 16-8 win over Chicago (3/29/08)... He recorded an assist in New Jersey (1/11/08) - it was the 100th point of his career... Nelson recorded his first goal of the season in the 12-9 win over La Raza (11/16/07) and his first points of the season (two assists) in the 13-8 win over the Wave (10/27/07)... He played his 200th Blast game on February 24 in Chicago.
Career Highlights:
He is one of just 10 players to play in 200 games with the Blast.
2006-07 Season: Nelson led the Blast with two goals in the 8-6 win over the Cougars (3/11)... He recorded the 200th block of his career in Detroit (3/16)... Nelson played in the 200th game of his Blast career (2/24 @ Chicago)… He scored one goal and recorded one block in the game... He recorded a three-point goal and an assist against the Wave (12/1) for his first points of the season.
2005-06 Season: Nelson won the third MISL Championship of his five-year career... He first two goals of the season were scored against the Wave (12/10 and 1/7). 2004-05 Season: Nelson recorded two assists (4/15) against Kansas City... He recorded his first goal of the season against Philadelphia (11/6).
2003-04 Season: Nelson led the Blast with 49 blocks… He recorded three blocks against the Wave (4/3) to hit the 100-block mark for his career... He was the MISL Defensive Player of the Week (2/22)... Nelson scored a goal in the 100th game of his career (1/31, 11-4 win over Comets).
2002-03 Season: Nelson recorded his first three-point goal of the season against the Comets' sixth-attacker offense (1/24)... He recorded one goal (the game-winner) and one assist in the 15-6 victory over Cleveland (1/4)... He scored the game-winning goal in overtime to put the Blast ahead of the Harrisburg Heat, 12-10, (12/13).
2001-02 Season: Nelson was named MISL Rookie of the Year after a 20-point, 20-block season... He recorded the first three-point goal and assist of his career against the Heat (12/29)… He also added a two-point goal on the night for a season-high six points... Nelson scored his first goal (Baltimore's only goal of the game) against the Wave (12/7)... He played in his first-ever professional game against the Comets (10/26).
College:
He played four seasons at the University of Maryland - Baltimore County... He was the Retrievers’ 1999 Unsung Hero... He started 79 of 80 games while at UMBC and was named Second Team All-NEC Defender in 2001... He majored in psychology at UMBC.
Personal:
Nelson, a 1997 graduate of Bel Air High School, led the Bobcats to the state finals in 1995 and earned All-State, All-Metro and All-County honors during his senior year... He played for the Soccer Club of Baltimore in the 1998 U.S. Youth National Championships... He coaches the Boys Latin High School soccer team that won the MIAA B Conference Final during the 2003, 2004 and 2005 seasons... He is also the head coach of an Upper Chesapeake Soccer Club team...His daughter, Alexis, was born last March. |
